Short Ride

Despite early morning WhatsApp messages I was determind to make my way to the showground to do the short ride. The others who made it wanted a longer ride and I declined their offer of joining them as I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep up with them.

The route was Beckwithshaw, Norwood, Menwith, Tang and Hampsthwaite. The rain eased going up Norwood Lane but took a turn for the worse on Menwith Road.  Cycling on Broad Dubb Road I passed Alison and Margaret  cycling in the other direction, unfortunately I only noticed them at the last moment and as I was cycling downhill  I couldn’t really stop. Those who know me will be shocked I didn’t stop for a coffee at Sophies but continued home for a coffee instead. Overall it was an enjoyable 23 mile ride despite the conditions, flooded roads and lack of company. Paul T

Medium Steady

Five fearless / foolish cyclists ignored the forecast in favour of getting out for some fresh air !  Paul T had pedalled in from Killinghall in his wellies so after exchanging greetings he opted for a return loop. James, Tim1, Roger & I determined to set off on my assigned route heading north-east to Marton through the Ouseburns & Thorpe Underwood before diverting to a fairly quiet Tancred Farm Shop for hot drinks & tea-cakes.

Rain 🌧️ was pretty persistent so we decided on another déviation, from Whixley over the railway line straight to Walshford. We split up at the end of the A168 bike path with James & Roger heading towards Knaresborough whilst Tim1 & I took on the shin-deep ford on the Little Ribston to Spofforth Rd., fortunately remaining upright if a tad soggy.  Fauna count today : 1 kite, 1 swan standing sadly alone in a field, 1 goat, 2 Clydesdales and a chatty dog walker happy to take the group photo.  So, a fine ride out in pleasant company on a rainy day to record 37 miles and 1,687 ft.
