A Summary of Cycling Insurance Cover for Wheel Easy, Ride Leaders and Members

Please note that:

1. The Wheel Easy insurance with Cycling UK only applies to official Wheel Easy rides as listed on the Wheel Easy Website Ride Calendar.

2. This insurance does not apply to non-official rides by Wheel Easy members e.g: ad-hoc rides organised through WhatsApp; or rides using a Wheel Easy route but not starting from the official start point as listed on the Ride Calendar.  For the avoidance of doubt, a useful test is that a ride must be open to all Wheel Easy members.

Annual Third Party Liability Insurance can be bought from Cycling UK and others.  At the time of writing (May 2019), the Cycling UK policy provides up to £10m cover for any claims made against you for damage or injury.  The policy includes using cycles for business use. Although you may not be at fault – you could, for example, have unintentionally damaged a car, or caused injury to a fellow cyclist – the policy will cover you. It also covers sportives, charity rides, audax, time trials and other rides, as long as they are not competitive in nature. Electric pedal bikes are also included.

Any provider’s policy cover should ALWAYS be compared to others to ensure it has the required features, particularly when compared to cover provided under a house insurance policy.
