Wednesday Ride

Yvonne kindly set us up on a ride with an excellent cafe stop but sadly succumbed to Covid. A small group of us followed the route via Kirkby Overblow to Jewitt Lane, Bramham and along to Roast Cafe.
The service is welcoming and exceptional. We returned via Newton Kyme where the cycle route across the Wharfe was new to Gordon. The almost flat and traffic free route back to Wetherby was particularly helpful as I had forgotten to charge my battery! Lovely cycling in the warm sunshine, welcome back Richard who had no trouble with the pace and home with 11% battery left! Mike discovered the newly surfaced bridleway behind Oakland Junior school another additional route to keep away from the busy Hookstone Road and it links in with the Showground Greenway. We only deviated once from the route to avoid the busy Kirk Deighton road other than that we followed the plan. Thanks everyone for a super ride,Tony, Gordon, Mike, James, Richard, and Tim, probably at a pace faster than usual for some of us! 43 miles door to door. Gia

Medium Plus Brisk

Ten riders set off on route 209- destination – Naburn Marina. We nearly lost Richard around Cawood and decided to avoid Riccall and head towards Stillingfleet and the Marina. Richard and Trefor pushed on leaving the rest of us admiring the renovations at the Marina- very posh. Sandwiches were ‘expensive’ so cakes and scones were the order of the day- oh and not to forget the ‘tubs’ of whipped cream. Good job we’d been going fast!! We decided to avoid the nasty bit of the route alongside the A64 and Bob kindly navigated us through Bishopthorpe and Copmanthorpe and back onto the published route. We had a small shower but nothing too bad. 60ish fast miles- thanks to the ‘fast boys’ on the front. Janet G

Wanderers’ Ride

I thought I would risk a slightly longer ride today but didn’t want to put anybody off by making it hilly as well. So a fairly flat route up to Ripon where Margaret left us to make her way back via the deer park. We carried on to Hutton Conyers, Rainton and Topcliffe and eventually arrived at Spilmans farm in Sessay which was a first for a few of us. Quite busy with families as you’d expect now it’s the holiday season, the service was well organised and we all settled in the courtyard in the sunshine where Sally force fed us fresh strawberries. After a fairly long lunch we made our way home via Thornton bridge, Boro’bridge, Aldborough and Marton cum Grafton. Everybody coped well with the distance and we did 53 miles at 12.9 mph, not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for the company and not complaining about over 30 miles to the lunch stop! Steve B.
