Short Ride

A lovely sunny day and luckily with a pleasant breeze to accompany 8 riders on a round trip to Boroughbridge: Dennis, Paul, Gordon, Mike, Bob, Sarah, Karen, and myself. Paul showed us a shaded pathway through the Hay-A estate, which was a welcome change from the main road in Knaresborough. Then the usual route through Farnham and Staveley, where we parted ways with Dennis & Bob who both had to return to Harrogate, leaving 6 of us to wind our way through Boroughbridge. I say wind, because I did, sort of go round the houses! We ended up at the Tiny Teapot café in the courtyard for drinks and snacks. The 6 of us returned via Roecliffe & the track, which Gordon on his trike managed to navigate with ease despite the small gates. We parted ways at the bottom of Knaresborough hill; 3 of us taking the main road & the other 3 who opted for the Beryl Burton cycle path. Whichever way you go, it’s still uphill! A pleasant ride & friendly company. Diane

Wanderers Ride

On a glorious summer’s day where better to go than Thruscross and West End. 10 riders were happy to accept the challenge of the hills- or weren’t familiar with the route! We set off in two groups and arranged to rendezvous at regular intervals. All worked according to plan and the countryside became more and more spectacular. We even heard a cuckoo! Besides sunshine and blue skies we were lucky to have a strong breeze which kept us pleasantly cool. At the Stonehouse pub turn I saw the first group had picked up an extra rider. Ros from near Otley had managed to track us down. Today, Thruscross was  looking good- a beautiful blue and full. Then the hill challenge began, but no complaints thanks to the beautiful scenery. Once back on Duck Street it was a pleasant ride through Thornthwaite to Darley for coffee. Once settled outside, no one was in a hurry to move. Eventually, we made a move and took a shady route home via Birstwith and Ripley. Thanks to all for the cheerful company . 37 hilly miles. Alison N

Wednesday Away Day Ride

Route 1009 is in the valuable archive of away day rides. A short drive to Masham and a 30 mile ride through some delightful villages, across the gallops at Middleham, culminating in the delightful run at Coverham along the lane to East Witton. We started the day in style with a lengthy stop at the cafe at 360 Cycleworks in Bedale , introduced to us by Michelle. whose colleague now runs the cafe. She does a great job.
We were in no hurry cycling along quiet lanes and enjoying the views, the freshly mown fields of hay, a huge number of cattle in a field and a horse with her foal.
Our final stop not far out of Masham was Brymors where a healthy amount of ice cream was consumed.
Thank you to you all who came along for the ride, on such a beautiful day, Kevin, Tim, Alan, James, Paul, Gia, Malcolm, Sylvia and Monica.  Gia
