Short Ride
The weather forecast for today was not great. Chris and I battled with the wind up to the showground and wondering if there would be any takers for the short ride because of the weather forecast. At the Showground there was a small group of members discussing whether to cancel the rides because the wind was predicted to be gusting at over 40 miles per hour. Chris and I decided to give it a go reviewing the route and weather as we proceeded. Four hardy riders, David, David, Liz and Paul joined us.
We set off from the showground under a sunny blue sky. Without the wind it would have been perfect cycling day. We sped down Hookstone Chase to Low Bridge, admiring the beautiful rainbow as we rode. After a brief stop we decided to carry on. Our route took us along Abbey Road, up Chain Lane, Halfpenny Lane, over to Scriven and along Market Flat Lane to Lingerfield. We made our way to Scotton and turned on to Ripley Road. We turned right into High Moor Lane where the cross wind was very strong, especially by the open fields causing a few hairy moments. The heavens briefly opened as made our way towards Nidd and then on to Ripley and the welcome sight of the tea room. Paul left the group at Ripley and headed home. The rest of us enjoyed our elevenses and brunch. Suitably refreshed we headed back along the Greenway and were thankful for the shelter from the wind that it provided. Along the Greenway the group parted company to go home. About 18 miles.
Thank you for your company on what turned out to be an enjoyable ride, which certainly got rid of a few cobwebs! Chris and Chris
