Sunday 4th July
Short Away Day
A sunny morning saw Sue, Mike & Fiona leaving Boroughbridge for a short away day tour to Easingwold. We set off through the quiet, attractive lanes that lead through the Dunsforths, Aldwark Bridge & Alne. Great coffee & refreshments were had from the Curious Coffee Co and enjoyed sitting on the green in the sunshine. Return via Raskelf and Brafferton/Helperby on a slightly busier road. Arrived Boroughbridge just before the rain. 26 miles.
Our next short away day ride is on Sunday 15 August, Tadcaster & Askham Richard. If you fancy a change of scene, please sign up and come along.
Medium Ride
Not many takers for todays rides. Perhaps people were wary of the weather forecasts. Only Paul and myself for the medium ride. We stuck to the scheduled route until we got to Hollybank but Paul didn’t fancy Stripe Lane so being free spirits we cut across to Shaw Mills, Bishop Thornton , Markington and Bishop Monkton. Steady progress via Littlethorpe to Spa Gardens for refreshment, The weather was glorious as we consumed our Bakewell tart. We retraced our route to Bishop Monkton but as we climbed over to Copgrove we did experience a very brief sharp shower. It cleared before we turned for Farnham. Into Knaresborough and home before the rain. 36 miles which was more than the scheduled route so I don’t feel too guilty at missing Stripe Lane. Well done Paul. Colin B
Medium Plus Brisk
Not many people at Hornbeam this morning – perhaps it was the threat of rain or may be hangovers from the England game last night. Seven left heading out from Knaresborough and round to Cattal where Charlie, Navah & Mark left us to return home via Cowthorpe. The remaining riders swept on in the hot, sticky & muggy conditions eschewing all cafés along Route 266 until Bolton Percy. As we approached it started to rain – perfect timing except that Doyly’s café was closed leaving us to stand underneath a large Scots Pine whilst it chucked it down. And there was no point in putting on rain jackets in the humid & clammy conditions. A few minutes later the rain had passed and we were off to a café in Tadcaster with the roads steaming ahead of us. Glyn left us at Taddie to return to Leeds leaving Fred, Helen & Tall Tim to salsa to Wetherby, Sicklinghall & Kirkby Overblow. 58 miles. Tall Tim
