Medium Plus brisk Ride Report
It was one of those days when one would have expected it to be warmer than it actually was – it is after all the middle of summer! As it happened I opted for shorts and a base layer under a short sleeved shirt with arm warmers and given that it was only 13 to 14C, this proved to be perfect. A group of 9 of us (Giselle, Helen, tall Tim, Andy, Richard, Vince, Trefor, Jeremy (on his new Specialized SL7 Tarmac with Di2 Ultegra – very nice!) and I) set off on WE route 176. The route took us through Beckwithshaw, past Little Almscliffe, past Menwith and onto Duck Street. We then via’d off towards Yorke’s Folly. Progress down the hill for half the group was slowed by a tractor with trailer which manoeuvred out infront of us near the top. A refreshment stop was taken at Wildings tearoom where we sat outside… the cappuccino looked and was amazing!
The return journey was back though Bewerley to Glasshouses then up through Blazefield and Fellbeck to Brimham Moor Road and along the delightful Careless House Lane past Rabbit Hill Farm. Back past Ripley and onto the Greenway getting home just after 1 pm to leave the rest of the day free. A good, hilly route with good company – 38 miles with nearly 3000ft ascent. Tim
