Route description: Masham to Catterick, Bedale and Snape. A few pleasant climbs with views of Dales and Moors and mostly quiet country roads. The route includes some short diversions to sites of historical interest: the chapel of St Mary at Snape Castle (home to the mother and wife of Richard III, and of Katherine Parr before she married Henry VIII), the leech house at Bedale, and Bolton on Swale church for the memorials to Henry Jenkins, the oldest Yorkshireman so far ( died aged 169).
Travel time from Harrogate: 50 minutes
Car Parking: Parking beside tennis courts and cricket field (What3Words: ///debater.unsightly.impulsive), with overflow on the other side of the bowling green (parking at the tennis courts avoids the mud and potholes). There is an honesty box for parking fees.
Toilets/Refreshments at start: Toilets are just off the Market square at the top of the steps ( 50m) and are free. There are a couple of cafes in the Square but only the Bordar House Tea Rooms open at 9am for coffee.
Coffee Stop: None.
