New Starting Venue for Sunday & Wednesday Rides

We are going to try a new meeting / starting point for the Sunday and Wednesday Rides. With effect from Sunday 1st August rides will start from the Showground car park opposite Harrogate Sport and Fitness Centre (“the Squash Club”), just off Hookstone Drive. Access is along Hookstone Wood Road from Hookstone Drive, or via the cycle path from Hornbeam Park past St Michael’s Hospice, or along the Showground road past Sainsburys – see the plan below.

The area has a large open parking area which should be less congested than the Hornbeam car parks, particularly on a Wednesday, and will enable safer and less congested exits as the various rides set off. There are effectively three exit points, being, (1) down the showground hill and out onto either Rudding Lane via Gia’s Way or past Sainsburys and the Recycling Centre onto the Stonefall cycle path, (2) along the cycle path to St Michaels and Hornbeam Park and (3) along Hookstone Wood Road into Hookstone Drive.

The Squash Club also has toilet facilities which are available, if necessary!

Steps are being taken to amend the routes appropriately on the website but as this is quite a big task it will take some time to complete. You should therefor be aware that the routes, including the Garmin and other download versions, will still show the starting point as Hornbeam Park.

So please remember to come to the Squash Club car park starting on Sunday 1st August and if you happen to land in Hornbeam on autopilot, just nip smartly down the cycle path at St Michaels!
