Cycling safely in winter weather
Walk, Wheel Cycle Trust (formerly Sustrans) recently published an article you may find useful if you are one of the hardy souls who venture forth in colder weather.
“Winter weather can make cycling more challenging. Snow, ice, wind and debris all increase risk, and in some conditions it may be safer to walk instead. If you do choose to cycle, give yourself extra time, reduce your speed and follow these tips to stay as safe as possible.”
One of our fearless news team has been out riding a lot recently and would add: “keep the bike as steady and straight as you can if you are already on ice and carefully remove a foot from cleat to prepare for landing! I was fine on my rides lately despite a few icy encounters but took all bends more upright than I would normally and more slowly. Anticipation is key.”
