Medium Plus Brisk

12 riders selected the ride to Sutton on the Forest so we split into two groups- fast group 1 and fast group 2. This is a photo of group 2. Zoe posted an alternative route to the café stop – Miss Daisy’s. It was as lovely as ever – gorgeous food, really well presented. On our return journey we were joined by Geoff- who peeled off towards Knaresborough to meet Bob for post ride refreshments. We were definitely ‘tidy twos’ on the return but boy it was tough into the wind. Anyway ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’. Good ride- thank you. 57 miles Janet G

E.G.s

7 EGs were out today, 43% of which were Daves (DW1, DW2 & DS), plus Geoff, Phil, Jim and Eric.  DW1 had a cunning plan for today’s ride, which remained a secret for most of the day.  All we were told was “Thorpe Arch by a wiggly route, and then south”.

The first part was correct: I’d already clocked 22 miles to our Thorpe Arch coffee stop, which including riding north up the A167.  The second part of the statement was also true. We went south – deep south – to the villages around Selby: Biggin, Thorpe Willoughby, Hambleton, Monk Fryston.  A second refreshment stop was certainly required, at the excellent T-Post (aka the old Post Office) on South Milford High Street  Then it was time to stop the wiggly lines and make a straight line dash north for home.  However, as we approached Tadcaster, DW1  had 2 severe bouts of agonising cramp.  The rest of the ride were unaware of the predicament and arrived back in Knaresborough an hour ahead of the 2 of us.  Nevertheless, a very enjoyable ride though villages I haven’t seen for a very long time.  As cunning plans go, this took some beating!

It was 77 miles for this Harlow Hillbilly, 65 miles for those starting and ending at Low Bridge.  Eric

Wanderers

On this new route, with 15.6 miles of this route being on cycle paths, an amazing amount of 20 curious members turned up, we split into 3 groups with Tim and Steve very kindly taking a group each. We went out to KO via Leadhall Ln, Burn Bridge, up Walton head ln, a long downhill to Harewood bridge, up through Weardley, all 20 re-grouping at the New Inn, then past Eccup reservoir, up the rear of GSAL, across golf course, Slaid hill, down Park lane and up to Roundhay Park mansion, where we all re-grouped again before going through Roundhay park and onto the urban valley cycle paths for about 9 miles, past the lake, onto Wykebeck way, Arthur’s Rein, Killingbeck fields nature trail, Primrose valley park, Temple Newsom house and park, Colton park, across to Austhorpe fields, some trouble with one group not realising the green gate across the trail had a large V on the left side to pass heavy electric bikes under, so unfortunately having to do extra miles, then past the 5 new reed ponds, onto another many miles of cycle paths, Wood Ln to (the Arium cafe for coffee stop) which was surprisingly busier than my two previous test runs of this new route, but we managed to get all 20 seated and re-fueled before setting off out through Thorner, and quiet country lanes through Collingham, over the bridge through Linton and onto the Harland way to Spofforth, Follifoot, Rudding Ln, Crimple Ln, back to showground.

A massive thank you to Tim and Steve in helping their groups to navigate this very complicated route that included so much cycling variety of scenery and cycle pathways, in an area of Yorkshire the club rarely goes. 43.7 m 2357ft Mike W.
