Wednesday Wanderers’ Alternative Ride
Welcome back to Mike Wills after three months recuperating. So as an alternative to the advertised hilly ride, 13 of us settled on a flatter, shorter ride to Boroughbridge. Perfect cycling weather and company. We sat outside Plenty and had plenty of the usual banter with coffee and teacakes being the popular choice of the day. We headed back via Roecliffe. At Bilton there was talk of beers at the Gardener’s Arms to finish off an excellent ride ( it’s very close to where Corinne lives!! ).

Jill’s Hills
Nine of us met at 9.00 to complete one of our iconic rides, dedicated to Jill Fellerman who sadly passed away five years ago. Jill came to cycling in her twenties and soon acquired the passion and skill for riding.
Her cry of just one more hill was not to be believed but it pushed us all to do rides that we really could complete. Jill was a founder member of Wheel Easy and for many years our secretary. When she joined Cappuccino this just gave her more rides and more experience but her roots were always with Wheel Easy.
This ride to Timble, Askwith and then Langbar is one rich with fabulous views. Statione in Ilkley is a favourite, great food and great service.
We worked our way through a couple of road closures and enjoyed a quiet run on the Beamsley to Ilkley back lane with no traffic.

Wanderers’ Ride
Not as many takers for the Wanderers ride this morning on a perfect cycling day, maybe there was too many hills on offer! Eight of us set off from the showground, Mark, Derek, Steve S, Tony, Richard, Howard, Rob and me. Mike joined us just after Little Almscliffe to make nine. When we got to Menwith crossroads Mark and Tony left us for Dacre and beyond, now down to seven. Plenty of climbing but worth it for the fabulous views across Yorkshire and then the swoop down to Pateley where we got a table outside Wildings for refreshments. The problem with Pateley is that any route out is uphill, so we made our way to Smelthouses and then before we tackled Blaze field Derek and Richard left us for other commitments, now down to five. Last major climb up to Brixham and then payback all the way down to the Fountains Abbey road where Colin joined us for the run back to Ripley and then the Greenway home. Most of the time I couldn’t remember how many were in the group! Great day out with the usual banter, thanks for your company, I ended up with 44 miles and 2800 feet climbing. Steve B.
EG’s Ride
There appeared a plethora of EG’S assembled at Low Bridge today following an absence these past few weeks whilst holidaying at sea or hiking in foreign parts, indeed eight members were eager to set off under light cloudy skies and thankfully cooler temperatures. As the majority had not been out on two wheels for a little time an easy, straight forward ride to Easingwold was “muted” with what seemed a grateful thumbs up from most. Accordingly a gentle pace ensued towards our goal with the skies brightening up and very little wind.
Passing through Boroughbridge a quick wave to the Wheel Easy group languishing on the market square as we passed through. We had a short pause after Milby for a phone call and then pressed on. Approaching the bridge over the bypass before Easingwold we were surprised to witness very large swathes of water right across the road with accompanying significant spray as cars passed through. We had to slow to pass by safely wondering if it was a localised shower or indeed a burst main. (Never did find out)
Arriving in Easingwold we headed for our usual “haunt”, TeeHee’s where we discovered a new sunshade had been erected, but all the front seats/tables were full. However knowing of the hidden garden to the rear we headed there to an empty table. Having ordered inside, service was a little slow and “higletipiggleti”, out of sync, causing some disquiet with certain a diner. Conversation was varied and lengthy before we gathered together to return home. Geoff(No2) had already left early to be back in time for a meet at the Gardeners Arms so we were down now to seven.
Pressing on through Alne across Aldwark bridge we paused once again for yet more coffee/Tea and refreshments at the Post Office. One of our number here experienced the dreaded symptoms of cramp and took a little while to gather himself together ready to continue. Here also Dave S departed the group to aim directly for home whilst the six remaining stalwarts pointed towards home, Arriving approximately 4.00pm after about 45 miles. DW
