Short Ride
Storm Amy had blown over and left very gusty winds behind at least it was dry and sunnish! I had a mental maths day, started with two plus eight that made ten. Then two left at Kettlesing and one misplaced left seven. Onwards to cafe then homewards, Paul left then Kevin to find my misplaced one, which ended with five to Bilton, then I left which left four for home.
Lovely ride to Knox, down Lund Lane to Hampsthwaite, it was gusty winds but all stayed on their bikes. At Hampsthwaite on to Kettlesing where Margaret and Alison turned right and we cycled up to the A59 to cross for Penny Pot Lane. Dicing with traffic I and Paul crossed and waited for the other cyclists to catch up, this is where I had lost Annika who had turned back to Harrogate. Along a very windy Penny Pot Lane we made a welcome turn for Fewston Farm cafe. It was busy and I managed to get everyone seated where hot drinks and snacks were very welcome for us wind blown cyclists! Back across the A59 pass Menwith Hill onto Birstwith, up Clint Bank, Holly Bank Wood, Ripley and Greenway. Very enjoyable cycle route hope all my group enjoyed the trip and got home safely. Medium Ride
Wild windy brave or foolish? Clear blue skies wonderful views. It was windier than expected but we survived the most testing section along the gated road and separated briefly but met up at Sophie’s to enjoy the sunshine and chat. A great route ridden whichever way round. Another Wheel Easy classic. Should there be a poll for Wheel Easy favourite rides? Gia.
Medium Plus – Steady
Only three set off on the Medium Plus – Steady ride. We left the Showground via Sainsbury’s, so as to avoid the other groups heading towards Knaresborough. Then there was the wind, very gusty, and seemed to be in our faces the entire ride. To allow for the resulting slower pace we opted to omit the Myton-on-Swale loop and headed straight to Boroughbridge and Hideaway Tea Rooms. Similarly we gave the Lingerfield option a miss and headed straight home from Boroughbridge. PCJ
