Sunday 30th May

Medium Plus Ride

Eight (Glynn, Andy, Helen, Alan, Tim, Darcy, David & Jonathan) left Hornbeam in the cold wearing jackets and gilets looking to complete Route 47. By the time Helen left us near Otley it was sun, sun & more sun that would continue for the rest of the day. Up Langbar taking care to avoid the “suicidal” sheep, drink in the glorious views and then down for tea & cake in Ilkley. A fine run home followed. Tall Tim.

Medium Ride

Despite the weatherman predicting a glorious day it was a bit misty and cool as I rode up to Hornbeam this morning. Grateful that I had decided on a warmer jacket and leggings. Nine of us participating in the ride which we decided to do in reverse of the official route. So of to Burn Bridge and across to Kirby Overblow. Thankful for the warmer clothing. Brian took us ‘off piste’ just before Sicklinghall cutting across the bridle path to Wood Hall hotel. Not sure we stuck exactly to the path as we meandered through to hotel grounds but we hit Trip Lane and into Linton. Again going ‘off piste’ we rode along the side of the stream before getting to the A68 in Collingham. Very busy. Having successfully climbed up Jewitt Lane we made for Bramham. We got a little separated but regrouped in Boston Spa for coffee at Da Carlo’s. Very busy and a little disorganised but appreciated. By now the sun was out and the temperature was rising. On to Thorp Arch and Walton. Yet again ‘off piste’ to pick up Ruddgate Lane and then Cowthorpe, Little Ribston, Spofforth and Follifoot. On to the showground and home. Great ride, great company and what turned out to be fantastic weather. Near as dam it 40 miles for me. Thanks. Colin B
