Greygarth Monument (42 miles)
Greenway, Ripley up to the Drovers crossroads, straight on, down the steep hill (caution, bend at bottom) L through Sawley, to Risplith (café). High Grantley, L on little back lane at the recreation ground, immediate R fork, L at the T junction, up to Coal Hill above the tiny hamlet of Dallow . From Coal Hill you should see the Greygarth Tower. To reach it drop down by turning R at the T junction, then turn L and climb back up on a single track road which has a sign saying “no passing places for one mile”. Leave bikes to walk to the Monument and climb up the tower (look for Roseberry Topping). From the top of the moor turn R, (L is a bridlepath to Ramsgill). It is a fairground ride of a descent to Laverton going straight through the village, not crossing the beck, T junction R at the top of the hill, next T junction R again (not Grantley, but Winksley/Galphay signed) and immediately L at the fork. Follow road past the caravan park at Winksley Banks to Winksley village with its huge church tower, then Aldfield and Fountains (café). Back to Harrogate via Ripley and the Greenway.
