Route 1055

Awayday – Richmond – July 17th 2024

Starting Venue: Richmond
Route Length: 41 miles
Climbing: 870m

Route description: A varied route on the northern edge of the Dales venturing into County Durham. After about 5 miles north of Richmond it descends into the Tees Valley, typified by open spaces and rolling countryside, then follow the valley westward to Barnard Castle. The second half gets more hilly heading back to North Yorks rising gradually to about 1000ft before a final descent back to Richmond. The route crosses the A66 twice; care obviously has to be taken but both crossings are manageable. The first has a dedicated cycle/horse crossing and wide central reservation – follow the marked path on the left before the junction (4.2 miles). At the second, immediately prior to the lunch stop, both carriageways are single lane, also with a wide central reservation.

Travel time from Harrogate: 60 minutes

Payment can also be made by phone using the RingGo App (the same app used for Harrogate station car park) although this seems to charge an additional 20p for the benefit of receiving a text the next morning to inform you that your parking session has expired.
