Short Ride

Where did the sun go I wonder? Despite the cooler temperature eight lovely riders decided to come on today’s short ride via Bishop Monkton and Markington. Paul took us on a lovely ‘detour’ along Breary Flat Lane eventually popping out just past Piccadilly Motors. At the top of Farnham Lane Denis discovered that he had picked up a rather large tack. We turned left in Bishop Monkton towards Markington and Denis flew past me on the climb towards the Drovers crossroads- so much for a soft tyre! Denis left us at Ripley and we had coffee in the newly renovated Grindhus coffee shop. Just the Greenway and home. Many thanks to you all for joining me and especially Helen for back marking. 25.3 miles Janet G

Wanderers Ride

We were a group of 12 and the destination was Dallowgill. Setting off the weather was overcast and cool . There wasn’t any rain but not much sunshine either. The route was to Ripley, Clint, Burnt Yates and Brimham rocks road then past the rocks to the Ripon to Pateley road where we turned left down the hill, turning right at Fellbeck and on to the Moor. To me this is always the best part of the ride. It took longer than expected due to phone calls but we eventually arrived at Risplith sometime after 12 and stopped for our lunch which was good as usual and eaten inside. The route back was via Sawley, Low Lane and up the hill just short of the back way into Fountains and headed back to Harrogate. I had done 42 miles and 2837feet. Many thanks for a lovely day out. Wednesday Ride

Quite a cool morning at the Showground where 5 riders opted for the Jill’s Hills Wednesday ride – Gia, Jan, James G, John C and Monica. Paul T was waiting for us in Beckwithshaw and our group of six cycled steadily towards the usual first stop at Fewston car park. The climbs then started, first with Timble Hill, onto Askwith Moor and later up to Langbar. The views from there are always lovely. The steep descent was better than we expected, having been warned about loose gravel. The lanes to Ilkley were pleasantly quiet and we were all more than ready for our excellent lunch at Stazzioni’s. We decided to return by Askwith bank so another climb in store! The sun was starting to shine through as we reached Beckwithshaw which made a very pleasant end to a very good day out.

 Medium Plus Brisk Ride

Off we went – up Duck Street Lane with only a slight easterly wind, Greenhow & the fabulous scenery along to Skyreholme, past the “road closed” signs before crossing the Wharfe & stopping for tea & cake. Andy, Vince, Rachel, T1, Iain, Julie & T3 then met Emma near the A59 for the ride home. 4 riders went up Askwith Hill, 4 back via Poole & Kirkby Overblow. It was a bit “cool” at times which meant the business of taking photos was largely forgotten about until the last minute. 58 miles. Tall Tim
