Wednesday Ride
Although there were “no shows” this morning at the Showground, the Electric group comprising Koga Gia, Orbea Martin, Riese & Muller Paul and Bergamont Kevin & James, defied the odds and gathered along the new motorway surface of Leadhall Lane and headed for Wetherby on what turned out to be a very crisp sunny morning. Keeping a sharp eye out for ice we encountered just two patches along Walton Head Lane where water regularly floods across the road. Otherwise there were no problems and having had a brief photo call, courtesy of Martin and Paul, looking up the Wharfe Valley we headed through Sicklinghall into Wetherby for coffee and to warm up at The Gourmet. The cycle path towards Cowthorpe was the start of the return and then Little Ribston, Spofforth and Follifoot where there were shouts from the rear of what sounded like “no nickers” at a passing BMW driven by a lady who smiled and seemed to understand, although most of us were left somewhat in the dark! Despite this a good morning’s ride was had of around 30 miles in the usual good company and with a mix of earnest technical conversation and the more light hearted stuff over coffee. James G.
