Short Ride
Despite the treacherous conditions under foot at the Showground, the roads in the slightly more temperate area of Knaresborough were reportedly cycle able with care and six Short Route Riders were sufficiently comfortable to give it a try, so we headed off for Knaresborough via Forest Moor. The entrance into Abbey Road was slightly tricky but from then on there were no problems and it was damp with plenty of grip under the tyres. The sun came out as the route took us through Lingerfield, Scotton, Brearton, Nidd and into Ripley where a democratic decision was taken to head for Hampsthwaite and Sophie’s for coffee. There was plenty of seating available inside and coffee, cake and assorted conversation was enjoyed before returning up Hollins Hill and through Knox to our respective homes. About 23 trouble free miles in good company and smiley faces for at least on of the photos! James G.
Medium Plus Brisk Ride
There was an impressive turn out at the sunny showground ice rink, but most decided to opt for less riskier activities. However, a fearless group of 7 set off on the main road to Boroughbridge , then emboldened by the lack of ice, proceeded to Easingwold via Thornton Bridge. After well- deserved hot refreshments at the Olive Tree, the group returned over Aldwark Bridge and up everyone’s favourite Knaresborough Hill.
