Ride Reports

Sunday 15th. January

Medium Plus Brisk Ride

The weather forecast of- ‘feels like minus 2’ didn’t materialise and 5 degrees felt quite balmy. Five riders decided to form a separate group as three of us were still in recovery phase. Up Brackenthwaite Lane, through North Rigton and across Crag Lane ridge past Almscliffe Crag – where the photo was taken. A lovely descent through Weeton and across the A61 towards Kirby Overblow and onto Collingham where Jewitt Lane was waiting. Helen had a small mechanical but we were soon cycling through Clifford towards Boston Spa. We decided to head for Thorp Arch for coffee where we met another wheel easy group. The traffic lights were kind to us at Rudding and apart from my legs nearly giving out up the Showground Hill we had a great ride. Lovely day for cycling and thanks to Tim R, tall Tim,Helen and David W. Janet G

Short Ride

A good day for cycling beckoned after the recent wet and windy weather and no doubt this encouraged the eight cyclists to join the short ride today. We rode through Calcutt, Farnham and Scotton before turning down to Brearton where we paused at the Green for a group photo. Back on the road to Nidd we encountered an upturned SUV blocking the road, but a helpful policeman waved us though and confirmed no one was injured. Next came a quick dash down the A61 and into Ripley for a cafe stop. Thereafter it was the Greenway and home but not before diverting down Woodfield Road to avoid the fallen tree we were warned about at the announcements this morning. An enjoyable ride of 20 miles in good company at an average speed of 10.5mph. Thanks to Maris for taking the photo. Tim2

Sunday Medium Ride

A group of 8 set out from Hornbeam to ride via Kirkby Overblow, Linton, Collingham, up Jewit Lane and on to Bramham. Next, to the edge of Tadcaster where we turned left to head to Toulson. Turning left for a short while, we then took the track which soon crossed over the Wharfe and then we turned right into Thorp Arch Estate and headed for the cafe. Here we were soon served and fed. The return was along the track into Wetherby then north to Little Ribston and back via Spofforth and Follifoot to the Showground. About 40 miles. Liz P

Sunday Medium Ride group 2

On what was an unexpected good weather morning there were enough riders who selected the Medium ride to split into two groups so Yvonne and James agreed a ‘variation’ of the proposed route to enable us to have coffee in Boston Spa. So along with Kevin, Debbie and Monica they set off on the planned route via Kirby Overblow, Linton, Collingham and then Bramham where we diverted via Clifford into Boston Spa.Coffee (and food) was taken at Da Carlos which was a good choice by our ‘Leaders Yvonne and James after a good refuel and a chat we set off back towards Harrogate via Wetherby and home.

James left us at Little Ribston and the rest made it back via the Showground for a ride of approximately 35 miles. Today was a real ‘bonus’ ride given the weather overnight and we all got back home feeling as if we had made the most of a great day by enjoying the ride route and the company.       Kevin
