E-Bike Batteries

UPDATE on the item on E-Bike batteries in the recent News Letter courtesy of  Jo Smith:

” The recent publicity about fires concerns almost entirely chargers and batteries that have been bought on the internet for bikes that have been converted by ‘cowboys’. Bikes and chargers from reputable manufacturers like Specialized, Ribble, Cannondale etc. do not pose a significant risk and for such bikes and chargers it is not necessary to unplug a charger as soon as the battery is fully charged.  Additionally, it actually shortens the life of the battery to charge it fully before every ride. The batteries last significantly longer if they are used between 15% and 80% charge. If your battery indicator shows 50% charge and you’re going for a 25-mile flatish ride, don’t charge it!”
