Challenge Rides – Entry and Details

Registration is now open to club members for the 40 mile, 60 mile and 100 mile charity challenge rides planned for Sunday 3 July 2022. Hopefully, the three options, all enjoyable routes, will offer a challenge for members of all abilities. There will not be any other club rides on the day.

The club will be supporting the charity, Cyclists Fighting Cancer, which seeks to provide encouragement and support to infant and young adult cancer sufferers through the provision of cycling facilities.

Precise start times will be determined once the number of entries for each ride is known. Whilst entries will be open until the day of the event, preferred groups and start times cannot be altered to suit entries received after 19 June.

All rides will start and finish at Harrogate Hockey Club, where parking will be available if required. The intention is to start ride groups (of 8 maximum) at times which we hope will lead to riders finishing between 3pm and 5pm, hopefully allowing some post event socialising.

Routes

Brief details, with provisional start times, feed stations (marked #) and downloadable routes for the three rides are as follow:-

102 miles – Route – start between 7:15 and 8:00 – Bishop Monkton, Aldborough (#), Aldwark, Topcliffe, Skipton on Swale, Snape (#), Jervaulx, Thornton Watless, Snape (#), Wath, Bishop Monkton, Knaresborough. (It may be necessary to impose a cut-off for any groups not reaching Snape for the first time by 13:00)

62.3 miles – Route – start between 9:30 and 10:30 – Ripley, Bishop Monkton, Aldborough (#), Aldwark, Myton on Swale, Marton le Moor (#), Bishop Monkton, Knaresborough

Route signs will not be provided. Ride leaders are not being arranged, so navigation is required, although groups may wish to make their own arrangements in this regard.

Final details, including groups and start times, will be issued to riders around Tuesday 28 June.

Entry fees and charity fund raising

In general terms, the club will meet the costs of hiring the Hockey Club and venues used for feed stations, the sweeper/assistance cars and the organisation of routes and groups. The entry fee is to meet the cost of refreshments at feed stations and at the finish plus a £5 donation to our nominated charity.

Entry fees, including the £5 charity donation, are as below. Some members have enquired about friends or family members joining the rides. This is acceptable, but to comply with club rules such individuals will need to pay an additional £5 to cover the club cost element as club funds can only be used for the benefit of club members. Alternatively they could complete the membership forms and join for the year for £5.

Members:

100 mile route – £14
60 mile route – £12
40 mile route – £10

Non-members:

100 mile route – £19
60 mile route – £17
40 mile route – £15

Should anyone be interested in raising additional funds for our selected charity, Cyclists Fighting Cancer, they have a fund raising page here. As an extra incentive, anyone who raises £300 or more will receive a Team CFC cycling jersey.

Registration

Riders are asked to complete the registration form below, ideally no later than 19 June and make the appropriate payment by card via the button below.

If you have arranged to ride in a specific group (of no more than 8 riders), please provide a group name (appropriate to the event!), as part of your registration. Otherwise, the organisers will seek to form groups of riders with similar estimated ride times.
