Forest of Bowland 17 April 2024

Provisional information based on the Awayday planned for September 2023 and which was cancelled due to bad weather.

Starting Venue:Slaidburn
Route Length:42 miles
Climbing:4000ft / 1200m
Route Description:This is a fairly hilly ride. The Trough of Bowland is OK as long as there isn’t a strong westerly blowing.  Jubilee Tower (at about 14 miles) looks  out over Morecambe Bay and on a good day Blackpool Tower can be spotted. After lunch there are fine views of the Three Peaks. The Great Stone of Fourstones (31 miles) is worth a diversion on foot unless the ground is very soggy, and the splendid descent from Cross o’ Greet into Slaidburn makes the climbs worthwhile.
Travel Time:1 hour 15 minutes (42 miles from Harrogate)
Car Parking:Parking in the Ribble District Council car park, Slaidburn (What3Words/// protest.dozen.norms).  £2.90 all day by cash (no change given) or card.  There is no mobile signal to pay online.
Facilities at Start:Free toilets at the car park.
The Riverbank Tea Rooms (next to the car park) opens at 9:30am. As there is no coffee stop before lunch we propose that we push back the start to 10:00am.
Coffee Stop:No planned coffee stop before lunch. Jubilee Tower would be a good stop for a mid-morning snack. There are toilets available at Dunsop Bridge (4.5 miles) and at Caton (20 miles).
Lunch Stop:Bridge House Farm Tearooms, Wray, 015242 37775. (26 miles. What3Words:  ///taxpayers.winds.belly)
Depart:Meet at the car park in time for the first group to set off at 10am. Note that the departure time is later than usual due to the tea room opening times.
