Wheel Easy Ride Calendar

Wheel Easy rides start at Hornbeam Park railway station every Sunday and Wednesday, leaving at 9.30am, except the EG’s ride which meets on Wednesdays at Low Bridge, Knaresborough, and leaves at 10.00am. Lengths of rides vary according to the weather and season. Most rides have a coffee and/or lunch stop. Please arrive in good time. For ride descriptions click here.

Short/Beginners ride - Nicky & Graham Holden

Medium ride - Alun Davies

Route 164 Blubberhouses, Timble, Menwith Hill, 29miles.

Hornbeam. Beckwithshaw, Little Almscliffe, Fewston, Timble, then at main road turn R to Blubberhouses. R on A59, and L up Hardisty Hill (steep). 2nd R on to Menwith Hill Road and continue past Menwith Hill and straight on to Meg Gate where R to Clapham Green and Hampsthwaite (cafe), Killinghall, Greenway, Hornbeam. Hilly.(Alternative R just past Menwith Hill, L through Staupes, straight on at X roads, L at Y junction, R at X roads, L and L to Meg Gate and R to Clapham Green etc. Lovely quiet route)

Medium Plus ride - Declan Malone & Alan Rawet

Route 200 Greygarth Monument, 40 miles.

Hornbeam, Greenway, Ripley up to the Drovers crossroads, straight on, down the steep hill (caution, bend at bottom) L through Sawley, to Risplith (café). High Grantley, L on little back lane at the recreation ground, immediate R  fork, L at the T junction, up to Coal Hill above the tiny hamlet of Dallow . From Coal Hill you should see the Greygarth Tower. To reach it drop down by turning R at the T junction, then turn L and climb back up on a single track road which has a sign saying "no passing places for one mile". Leave bikes to walk to the Monument and climb up the tower (look for Roseberry Topping). From the top of the moor turn R, (L  is a bridlepath to Ramsgill).  It  is a fairground ride of a descent to Laverton going straight through the village, not crossing the beck, T junction R at the top of the hill, next T junction R again (not Grantley, but Winksley/Galphay signed) and immediately L at the fork. Follow road past the caravan park at Winksley Banks to Winksley village with its huge church tower, then Aldfield and Fountains (café). Back to Harrogate via Ripley and the Greenway.

Hornbeam, Burn Bridge R on Brackenthwaite Lane and straight on at X roads. L on B 6161 then R to Lindley Bridge and Farnley. L then R to Otley. Straight on over the river and A659. R at the church over A660 and up towards Chevin End but turn L onto the Chevin road. At junction turn L then R. At A658 straight over onto WYCR Eastgate/Breary Lane straight over A660 then L onto Creskeld Lane Turn L onto A659 and follow into Pool. Cross river then L to Castley, Weeton, L and R on A61 to Kirby Overblow, Rudding Park and Hornbeam.

Route 112 Little Almscliff, Birstwith, Fountains Abbey, Ripon, Knaresborough 42 miles.

Hornbeam. Squinting Cat, Beckwithshaw, Little Alms Cliff, cross A59 to Menwith Hill, turn R to Birstwith, cross main road into Wreaks Road, up Clint Bank, cross B6165 to Shaw Mills, Bishop Thornton, turn L at Drovers Inn crossroads, R at Watergate Lane, Fountains Abbey (cafe). Through Deer Park, Studley Roger, turn R onto B6265 to Ripon (café), Littlethorpe Lane, crossing A61 bypass, Littlethorpe, Bishop Monkton, Copgrove, Occaney, Sandy Bank, Knaresborough, Hornbeam Park.

Hornbeam, Rudding Park, cross A658 to Follifoot and Spofforth. Cycle track to Wetherby. York Road out of Wetherby, 2nd R on Hallfield Lane, L on Freeman's Way. Cycle track under A1, follow to Thorp Arch prison and L. At T junction, R and L. Follow Hall Park Rd to T junction.  L along Rudgate.  At Cattal, R, continue, cross A59 to Whixley. Continue till R to Thorpe Underwood. Great Ouseburn, Marton cum Grafton, Arkendale, Ferrensby, Farnham, Knaresborough, Harrogate.

Medium Plus ride - Peter Lawley, Volunteer Needed

Route 46 Yeadon Tarn, 40 miles.

Leadhall Lane, Burn Bridge, A61 over roundabout and L to Kirkby Overblow.
At A61 L then R to Dunkeswick to Castley. Over Pool Bridge to Pool and L onto A659, approx 1.5 miles. Shortly after railway bridge turn R on Creskeld Lane and into Bramhope. Through the estate, straight over A660 towards Old Bramhope. Cross A658 and after about a mile turn L at T junction, 2nd R to East Carlton and straight on to Yeadon Tarn. Return back through East Carlton and left into Otley (café). Return to Harrogate via Lindley or Castley

Route 191 Fountains Abbey, Ripon, Littlethorpe. 30miles.

Hornbeam, The Greenway, Ripley, out on Pateley road and 1st  R up to Drovers Crossroads, straight on to Raventofts Hall and R along Watergate Lane. Straight on  and then down to Fountains Abbey and uphill to the Visitor Centre entrance. Through Studley Park to Studley Roger and R into Ripon. Littlethorpe, Bishop Monkton, Copgrove, Farnham, Knaresborough, Harrogate.

Medium Plus ride - Monica & David Webber

Route 41 Vale of York to Easingwold, 50 miles. (Mainly flat)

Hornbeam, Knaresborough Low Bridge, Farnham, Ferrensby, Arkendale. L on A168 and 1st R past Marton. R on B6265 and 1st L to Great Ouseburn.  Through Ouseburn, L to cross Aldwark Bridge, L towards Aldwark Manor. Follow signs for Alne and pick up cycle route 65 to Easingwold.
At roundabout turn R and then take L into town centre for café.
Reverse route out of town and head towards Raskelf then Helperby.
In Helperby turn   R to Thornton Bridge. Cross the river and turn L towards and into Boroughbridge. Return any route.

Route 43 to Harewood and Eccup, 33 miles. 

Hornbeam, Leadhall Lane, Church Lane, Pannal, cross Leeds Road.
R up Drury Lane. R then L on by pass. Kirkby Overblow. R at Shoulder of Mutton, R down steep hill to A61.  Turn L to Harewood Bridge. Over bridge and turn R to Pool. L to Weardley. Up steep hill and pass New Inn on LHS. Turn L at Village Road and keep L to Eccup reservoir. Over dam and exit on Harrogate- Leeds Road. Cross to Manor Lane and up behind Grammar School and out on to Wigton Lane.
At end turn L and follow road all way through East Keswick until T junction at end. Turn R and continue along Harewood Road to Collingham Primary School. Turn L along Linton Road to Sicklinghall Road and into Wetherby (Cafe). Return along cycle track or Little Ribston to Spofforth then Follifoot, Rudding Harrogate.

Medium Plus ride - Helen & Keith Tate

Route 30 Pateley Bridge, 36miles.

Hornbeam, Knox Bridge, Hampsthwaite. Turn L to Swincliffe Tang and Kettlesing, keeping on the tops as much as  possible. Past entrance to Menwith. Delves Ridge, R to Stonehouse Inn, R to Padside , L to Padside Green and over moors to Yorke's Folly. Very steep descent to Bewerley. Pateley Bridge. Return to Bewerley, L to Glasshouses, then R on B6165 and L to Wilsill, Brimham, Burnt Yates, Clint and home via Ripley or Hampsthwaite and Oakdale Bridge into Harrogate.

Hornbeam, Beckwithshaw, Little Alms Cliff, down hill to B6451, R and first L down to Swinsty and Fewston reservoir. Cross bridge and straight on keeping reservoir on L, until crossing longer bridge across reservoir. Up hill to car park and loos). Take L fork and climb steadily for a mile through Timble. First R back down to reservoir and cross back over bridge. Take 1st L and head back to B6451. Pennypot Lane and Harrogate.

Hornbeam.  Leadhall Lane, Burn Bridge, across A61, Walton Head Lane, Kirkby Overblow, Sicklinghall, R into Northgate Lane, R at end through Linton, L at end and R at former Star Inn, cross main road, and turn L behind shops to T junction, R into Jewitt Lane, up hill to cross roads and continue to Bramham, crossing over A1. Either L onto new cycle path parallel with A1 to Wetherby, or follow signs to Clifford, Boston Spa and Thorp Arch. Cycle path to Wetherby. Return along cycle path to Spofforth, Follifoot, Rudding Park and Showground to Harrogate.
