Harrogate Cycling for Pleasure
Harrogate's cycling club for people who
don't wear lycra! (and some who do)

Colin and I have decided to take a break over the Winter period from organising the Awayday rides. We have been doing them since August 2105 and its been great to see them develop and the enjoyment that they have given members of the Club.

If anyone fancies taking them on over the winter then I am very happy to help with the planning etc but I am not a route planner!

We would like to thank everyone who has helped by planning routes/rides and helping lead rides on the day. Also thanks to everyone who has supported the rides we have organised -it made it all worthwhile.

It has been a great way to explore areas that we don't normally ride and I am sure we will all have some great memories of some of the days out.

Trailer Ride

However… Colin and I have planned a ‘Trailer Ride ‘ on the 18th October.

This is a ride from Kirkby Lonsdale to Appleby in a day using the bike trailer. It is 40 miles and 1000m of climbing. We will be picked up for a 7am departure and dropped at Kirkby Lonsdale and then ride to Appleby and picked up by the trailer and driven home. The cost is £32 per person. Final details will be issues once I know there are enough riders to make it viable.

This is a ride that a few of us did sometime ago ( albeit in the other direction) and it is a great ride on mostly quiet roads and some delightful country lanes and is well worth doing. Anyone who has been on the Awayday rides will have covered parts of the route and we are planning lunch at the Orton Scar cafe at Tebay which is an cycle friendly stop.

I have attached the route for you to look at below:-

If you are interested in coming on the ride then please e-mail at  ksdouglas@tiscali.co.uk and I will then send out final details once I know there are enough people to make it a viable ride. Places will be allocated on a first come/first served basis.

If anyone has any queries then either speak to me or Colin or e-mail me on the above e-mail address.

Holland 25th September - 1st October. Al Davies says:

Five Wheel Easy members will be going to Holland on the night ferry from Hull to Rotterdam on 25th September, returning to the UK on 1st October. They will be heading East towards Arnhem and the Veluwe via Utrecht and returning to Rotterdam via the Ijsselmeer and Leiden, staying in small hotels or B&Bs. Approximately 50 miles a day on flat terrain.

If any other Wheel Easy members would like to join them, you can get further information and book a place from Al Davies (alun.davies55@gmail.com). They need to finalise the group by 30th July at the latest, so please book by then if you’d like to go. The maximum group size will be eight or nine people.

Majorca early October. Peter Roberts says:
Four WE members would very much appreciate the company of many others in Majorca this October.
Tempted again by the superb cycling opportunities Richard Leake, Eric Waters, Terry Smith and Peter Roberts are returning  to Majorca in early October and hope others will join them.
From previous experience we know that Club Pollentia, on the North coast is an excellent base with good, on-site bike, hire and access by cycleway to the lovely old walled town of Alcudia (1 mile) and Porte Pollenca ( 3miles).
There is a variety of routes on quiet roads with attractive villages and good cafes, rides to the south and east are flat and to the west mountainous and through superb scenery.
Although long  with numerous zig -zags the ascent gradients are easy by comparison with the Dales and, for WE members, plenty of good “swooping” down.
Riders drawn to the classic rides of Puig Majore, the notorious “necktie” route to Sa Colabra and the shorter Cap Formentor lighthouse will not have the opportunity to sample the lovely shorter rides.
So a team doing these routes would add to the overall experience of the group.
The bookings are DIY, so individuals can either coincide exactly with the four or arrange a shorter or longer stay.
Please contact any of the above for more information, we have all been before, what better recommendation.!
